According to the Joint Commission, an estimated 80 percent of serious medical errors involve miscommunication between caregivers when responsibility for patients is transferred or handed-off. Elevos Telemedicine is all about uniting the treatment team that provides care throughout a patient’s entire journey.

Ditch the short form reports, radio communication and phone calls. Use Elevos telemedicine in conjunction with our EHR/ePCR solution to convey patient information once. With Elevos, you can ensure the Emergency Department or other receiving entity is prepared and ready to act when your patient arrives.

As technology improves, the opportunities to use telemedicine to enhance patient care continue to expand. To date, the goal of using telehealth has largely focused on connecting patients to specialists prior to hospital arrival in order to reduce the time from symptom onset to treatment. New efforts by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) aim to use telemedicine to ensure Medicare Fee-for-Service (FFS) beneficiaries receive the most appropriate care, at the right time, and in the right place.

Currently, Medicare regulations only allow payment for emergency ground ambulance services when individuals are transported to hospitals, critical access hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, and dialysis centers. But a new program, the Emergency Triage, Treat, and Transport (ET3), is set to change that.

ET3 is a voluntary, five-year payment model that will provide greater flexibility to ambulance care teams to address emergency health care needs of Medicare FFS beneficiaries following a 911 call. Under the ET3 model, CMS will pay participating ambulance suppliers and providers to:

  • Transport an individual to a hospital emergency department (ED) or other destination covered under the regulations
  • Transport an individual to an alternative destination partner (such as a primary care doctor’s office or an urgent care clinic)
  • Provide treatment in place with a qualified health care partner, either on the scene or connected using telehealth

Implementing a telehealth solution will be critical to taking advantage of the opportunities afforded by the ET3 program.
